Gameplay: Modern warfare 2 is the 2nd installment to Call of Duty: modern warfare. Player plays as multiple characters like Gary “Roach” Sanderson, Joseph Allen, James Ramirez and “Soap” MacTavish who was the main character in the previous version of Call of duty: modern warfare. Gamplay is almost the same as the Modern warfare whereby player have to complete task given to them. Example of task would be planting explosive charges on enemy installation, defend a place or to arrive at a particular position.

GamePlot: Modern Warfare 2 is set 5 years after modern warfare whereby Vladimir Makarov, one of Zakhaev former lieutenants begins a campaign to “destroy” europe with acts of terrorism. Player plays as Joseph Allen at the start at Afghanistan to fight against a city of militants. Soon later, he was sent for an undercover mission under the alias Alexei Borodin to get close to Makarov. He then joins Makarov in an massacre of civilians at fictional Zakhaev International Airport in Moscow. However, Makarov knows of his true identity, kills him and expose Allen identity before leaving the scene to pin the “crime” on him. More of the story can be found on Wikipedia.

Opinions: In my opinion, Modern Warfare 2 is better than Modern warfare. This time, there are more “cooler” actions/things to do like driving the snow mobile, and the speedboat. Players get to speed down a steep slope with a snow mobile while taking down enemies who were chasing. Moments like these makes the game more exciting and enjoyable. Also, the moment of killing of lots of civilians would probably turn on people who loves “killing” in the game. But then also there are people who may get turn off by it since its against their “morals”. Though completing the missions and objectives may give a sense of accomplishment, however moments of betrayal and such will probably piss off many players. There is  a mission whereby players have to defend very hard while  the laptop is transferring the information. After which when the player passes the information to the general, he got betrayed with a bullet from the general. Moments like this may piss off players because they fought so hard to complete that “mission” just to get shot in the face. The last “bad” point I feel about the game is the duration. There is only about 5 hours of game play which I think is pretty short for an awesome game like this. If there was more game play and storyline to account for what happens to Makarov or to “Soap”, it would have been better. But then again with these parts missing, I assume that there will be another sequel to Modern Warfare to account for these missing parts.

Graphics: Great. In my opinion, it’s better than the Modern Warfare. I guess it’s due to their game engine which is said to be far better than the one used in Modern Warfare.

Overall: 8/10 in my opinion.

Name:Plant VS Zombies

Genre: 2D shooter,Tower defence

Game Description: Plants vs Zombies(PVZ) is a 2D tower defence game in which players have to defend their home/base from the incoming zombies using plants. There are many types of plants/tower in this game and each plant is different with different abilities.

GamePlay: The map wil be grid based and player have to plant their plants/tower  in the grid strategically as when the zombies reaches the plants/towers, they will eat off the plants. Every few seconds, there will be an item called the sunlight dropping from the sky( unless you are playing in night mode). These sunlight are required to build the plants. Different plants require different amount of sunlight. Alternatively, there is a plant called the sunflower which will give sunlight from time to time so the more you have it the faster you get your sunlight. However, you will use up more space in the grid and thus, your other plants are closer to the zombies. The plants/towers shoots in a straight row to the zombies. There are many different type of zombies and each of them also have different abilities (eg. one of the zombies can jump over your tower). Plants vs Zombies also have different modes like survival mode, puzzle mode and mini games.

Graphics: The art direction is childish and cute. Its not very graphic intensive. A great game for children.

Overall: I think Plant vs Zombies is a pretty good game with cute graphics and an interesting gameplay. However, the gameplay remains the same throughout the game and thus, making the game boring over time.

Name: Call of duty 4

Game Description: Call of Duty 4 is a first person shooter game taking place in present day warfare in the middle east countries instead of World war 2 settings.

Game Play: Players get to use modern day weapons like M4A1 Carbine, Night vision goggles, M203 grenade launcher and many others. However, Call of duty 4 still has some features the previous version has like fighting alongside with AIs. There are no health bars in the game. Whenever, players gets heavily damaged, the screen turns red. If the player continues taking furthur damage, the player dies. However, if the player stays ut of combat for awhile, their health will recover and the screen will be back to normal. Whenever a grenade is tossed at the player, the player gets to throw back the grenade by pressing the middle mouse button or by pressing ‘g’. Players gets to play as 2 characters in the game, “soap” MacTravish and Paul Jackson. However, player plays as Soap most of the game during campaign mode. Players have to fight through the stages and find Al-Asad who then reveals that Zakhaev supplied the nuclear bomb. Players then have to find Zakhaev by finding his son. But before his son was questioned, he commited suicide which enraged Zakhaev and caused him to launch 2 missles to the United states.Players then need to deactivate it and escape but along the way escaping, the bridge was destroyed leaving the whole squad trapped and players have to engage Zakhaev and his forces until suppport arrives. There is also multiplayer mode for Call of Duty 4.

Graphics: The graphics of Call of Duty 4 is pretty realistic. There is good lighting and weather effects also.

Overall: I think Call of Duty 4 is a great game as the settings is modern. It gives players the feeling that they are in modern battle.

Game: Trauma Centre

Game Description: Players will be playing as Derek Stiles, a doctor of hope hospital who does surgery for patients. Players will use the touchscreen function of the DS to “operate” the patient. Tools and equipments include the ultrasound, Scalpel, syringe and many others. Players will also have 1 special ability, the Healing Touch which slows down time and allows the player to “operate” faster for a limited amount of time.

Gameplay: The lower screen of the DS is for the player to operate and also to show the patient’s body. The top screen will show the time left for the operation and also to display instructions. During the operation, players must make sure that the patient’s health does not fall to zero and complete the operation within the time limit. After each successful operation, the player’s score/rank will be shown and the score will be based on the accuracy of the operation.

Game Plot: The story is set to be in the year 2018 and a new man made disease known as GUILT was distributed by a medical terrorist organization called Delphi. It is at this point that Derek decides to embrace his ability and use it to end the threat of GUILT. Derek then managed to remove several strains of GUILT from several patients and finally track down Delphi leader, Adam, who is also heavily infected with GUILT. Derek operates on all the strains and managed to rid the world of GUILT. He then becomes well known as the man who saved the world.

Graphics: This game is in 2D and it’s similar to graphic novels. Thus, the graphics were mostly Drawings.

Overall: This game is very addictive as it allows player to interact a lot with the touch screen function of the DS. The story is also good. However, most of the time player skips the dialogues as it’s too long winded.

Game Name: Age Of Empires 3

Platform: PC

Year released: – 2005

Genre: RTS(real time strategy)

Game Description: Age of empires 3 is the 3 installment to the age of empires series. Now it has more advanced or more modern soldiers compared to the older age of empires series. There are soldiers weilding guns and rifles now. There are 2 other expansion to Age of empires 3: The warchiefs and The asian dynasties.

Gameplay: Players are given a town centre, some villagers and some resources. Players have to build up their colony, advaance to the next age, get stronger millitary units,etc. Players also have to collect resources like wood,food and gold. Now in Age of empires 3, Players also get to ally with native tribes and get the native soldiers. The game progress like any other real time strategy games whereby players have to eliminate their oponents by destroying all their units and buildings or until they resign. There are new and cooler units now in Age of empires 3 like the Musketeers, the Field guns(an artilery),etc. Also, players are given a Explorer in the start of the game to explore treasures. Some treasures can be taken away just like that while others, the players need to kill the guardians before getting the treasures. In Age of empires 3, the infantry and calvary units no longer use their swords to slash at the buildings to destroy it. Instead, they throw flaming torches into the building which is also more realistic.

Sound: Now in Age of empires 3, when ever the players attacks or whenever there is a major battle, the background music changes into something more tense and dramatic. Otherwise, the background music is soothing and peaceful.

Graphics: The graphics in Age of empires 3 is much more better then the older versions Age of empires series. The enviroment and buildings looks more realistic. Also the physics engine makes it even better

Conclusion: Overall Age of empires 3 is a great game except that now there is lesser race/country to play as or play with.

Description of the game: Phoenix wright is a visual novel adventure game in which the player gets to play as Phoenix wright, a defence attorney, to fight law cases and defend his client by finding evidence and contradictions in the witness testimony. There are some occasions in which the player gets to play as different characters. There are 4 installments of the game and 1 in development currently.

Gameplay: Gameplay for Phoenix Wright is quite simple.At the start of every chapter, there will be a  short introduction and also a short ending after the case.Players have to think and pick out contradictions during cross examinations. During investigations, players have to pick out evidence or talk to other characters to gain information about the case. Players have 4 options when: Talk – talk to anyone present. Examine- examine the current area. Present- present any items to anyone present and lastly move which is to move to another location. During trial, players are given 5 lives to win the case. The player loses a life if he makes a mistake. For Nintendo DS, players get to use the mic, and the touchscreen function for things like luminol spray- a spray to allow people see blood or blood that had been wiped away and aluminium power- to detect fingerprints. Lastly its also used to rotate the evidence to have a clearer look at it.

Graphics: The graphics of Phoenix Wright is actually just drawings or 2d animations

Sound: The sound used for background music and effects were very good. The BGM suits the scene perfectly. Eg. the BGM when you win a case. The sounds effects also came out at the right time. Eg. when Phoenix Wright shouts “OBJECTION“.

Conclusion: Overall I think phoenix wright is a great game with awesome storyline. However, the game is abit plain- there isn’t much action in it. I hope CAPCOM will continue to produce more installments to this game.

Description of the game: Devil may cry 4 is the fourth instalment of the devil may cry series. The first devil may cry game was available in Sony Playstation 2. The plot setting for devil may cry 4 was set after devil may cry and before devil may cry 2. The story is about Nero, a new character in the devil may cry series, fighting off the demons and an evil high priest to save a girl who has been manipulated by the high priest.

Game play: Devil may cry 4 game play was similar to the other devil may cry series whereby the players have to fight through missions and occasionally solving puzzles. The players have to play as 2 characters in the game. The players plays Nero throughout most in the game with Nero’s Red Queen sword, Blue rose revolver and his demonic arm. Nero’s demonic arm has many different attacks. His arm is able to pull himself towards his enemies or vice versa. The demonic arm can also used for throws and grapples which deals high damage and various effects depending on the enemy.

The second character that the players gets to play is Dante, the main character of the devil may cry series. Dante have five fighting styles which are: Trickster, Gunslinger, Sword master, Royal guard and Dark slayer. These 5 styles grant him different abilities and the player may now switch Dante’s fighting styles anytime with buttons or pads on the PlayStation 3 controller or the Xbox 360 controller unlike in devil may cry 3.

Graphics: There is a slight difference in graphics between the cut scenes and the game. The graphics for both the cut scenes and the gameplay were very realistic.

Sound: The sound quality of the game is very good. Not only there is background music, there are also sound effects for gun shots, sword slashing and also the character’s voice.

Conclusion: Overall, I think this game is wonderful. The storyline, graphics and sound are good. I hope CAPCOM will continue with devil may cry and produce a fifth instalment.
